Before you buy a lock or book a visit

    1. Name the symptom. Key will not turn, bolt binds, door will not latch, lost key, or battery warning? Write down when it started.
    2. Identify the hardware. Record brand and visible model. Photograph the lock and door edge without showing key cuts, codes or your address.
    3. Check the easy differences. If you can safely open the door, note whether the lock behaves differently with the door open. Do not force a bent key or jammed mechanism.
    4. Match the guide. Follow the symptom-specific checks below before choosing a part.
    5. Build a parts list. Record door thickness, backset and bore before replacing a deadbolt; match battery markings and cylinder/keyway before buying batteries or rekey supplies.
    6. Know when to stop. A cracked key, damaged hardware or a problem you cannot identify is a reason to get help. Leave safe, vehicle and unfamiliar commercial work to someone qualified.
    7. Request a clear quote. Ask about the visit fee, labor, parts and any extra charges. Confirm the business name and scope before dispatch.
